Cambodia/Angkor Wat teaser

Last year we visited my #1 bucket list destination, Angkor Wat in Cambodia.  It was a truly unforgettable trip and I plan to post a travelogue for the trip.  One thing holding me back is that upon return, in the process of uploading all the photos off my phone...they all got deleted.  Every single picture between July and December.  Cambodia, Shanghai, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Seattle, Santa Barbara, and everything in between. My Samsung Galaxy S6 failed me.  The camera was SO good I was using it for every photo.  No, I was not backing up to the cloud because my use case does not work for cloud backup. Uploading 1-2GB of photos every night over spotty hotel Wifi...not going to work. My phone would never catch up.  So I didn't have it configured and somehow when I went to transfer the photos to my computer at home, I deleted before I realized not all of the pictures had transferred over.  I believe the photos are still in memory but until the S6 is rootable, these files are totally inaccessible.

So the bottom line is, I have (only) a dozen of my photos, and all of DH's photos.

I promise I will post the tale ... soon.

Pegah's Kitchen - Escondido, CA

It seems every time we go to Pegah's, it rains. So our new plan to relieve the California drought is to go to Pegah's as often as possible.  We love their huge portions and home cooking but it can be a bit noisy. Another great family run restaurant, much preferred to Dennys or Cocos. Dad remarked that there are hardly any breakfast places left in Rancho Bernardo - and the RB Cocos just closed. What's left?? In our area, it seems like it's down to just Donut Touch and Champagne Bakery.  And Champagne is really just a glorified Croissant place with no pancakes or waffles (altho their Croissants *are* spectacular). And I do have to shout out for Donut Touch, they once let me take a dozen donuts and pay later when I forgot my money one day...

So where will we take the Mom's to a good old fashioned American breakfast? We'll have to trek over to Pegah's, Golden Egg, Delight of France, or Center City Diner, all in Escondido.

Fav: Waffles, corn beef hash, quesadilla, bacon and egg platter. Bacon is thick and crispy - no "paper" bacon here.

Not so fav: pancakes can be mushy or rubbery.

Welcome!

This blog is meant to be a better way to capture our travel experiences in a way that others can share. Fellow travellers are looking for guideposts and specifics - restaurant and hotel names, vendor and venue details, itinerary ideas, and all the pro-tips that we had to learn the hard way. Besides the personal enrichment that travel brings, that value gets multiplied a hundred fold when you can share that information so that others can benefit.  Travelling for travelling's sake just isn't enough for me, and almost feels selfish. Now we can put all those restaurant pics and selfies to work.  What I will call the "utility value" of travelling.

The title of this blog is a combination of Vagabonding and Wandering.  Vaga-wandering. Travel to me is wandering and exploration, drinking in everything that is new, and not knowing exactly what is coming next.   When I was a kid, my Dad would take us on "vagabonding" vacations in our old Six Pac truck camper where the only goal was to see what was around the next bend.  We once took a long winding trip thru Nevada and Utah to Yellowstone back in the 70's and I spent much of the trip looking down the highway thru the tiny wind vent in the back of the camper behind the driver, with the wind in my hair.  I get this same feeling everytime I go Somewhere New.  It's exhilarating and exciting to go Somewhere New. Especially if you don't really know what you will find when you get there. And I start to itch when I've sat at home for too long.

So...where are we going next?
